Do you know Final Fantasy? One of the longest running and most popular gaming franchises. And unlike many other longevity games, it’s a lot heavier on storytelling, world building, and character design. A lot is going on here and much can be investigated through an academic lens.
And that’s exactly what a group of researchers set out to do in a new book on the psychology of Final Fantasy. In this episode of the podcast, I spoke with the seven authors of the chapters in this collaborative work, the psychology behind storytelling in Final Fantasy, the use of gender subtypes, how music enhances our enjoyment, and how we develop attachments. Explore topics such as The characters and how the game uses basic psychological impulses.
