welcome to Ruthology, an analytical discussion of how and why in the world of board games. Rather than news and reviews, Ludology explores different topics about games from a broader perspective and discusses game history, game design, and game players.
We publish new Ludology episodes every other week. In this episode, hosts Erica Bouyouris, Gil Hova, Scott Rogers, and Sen-Fong Lim often recount a single topic in game design with prominent guests from the gaming industry. Although we usually focus on tabletop game design (mainly board games and RPGs), we often draw experts in all forms of gaming, from video games to escape rooms to slot machines.
Weeks without flagship Ludology episodes alternate between two smaller mini-swords.
Gametech A long-running feature of the Dice Tower podcast, where Ludology co-founder Geoff Engelstein explores the math and science behind the game. Episodes of GameTek Classic aired once. Dice Tower Other GameTek episodes were recorded specifically for Ludology.
Biography of the board game Hosted by Scott Rogers, this series explores the history of classic and modern board games. He was once at Dice Tower but has since moved to Ludology full time.
We aim to make most Ludology episodes timeless, so you can browse our entire catalog. Most should age very well. The podcast was started in 2011 by Geoff Engelstein and Ryan Sturm and was acquired by Mike Fitzgerald on behalf of Ryan in 2015. Gil joined the show in 2017 when Mike stepped down, and Emma joined in 2019 when Geoff finished his tenure as host. Emma left in 2021 and Erica and Sen joined us.
